The customer, Messrs. CLIMAX Manufacturing Company, an American family owned enterprise, is located in the State of New York. CLIMAX is producing about 45.000 tons of paper and cardboard materials p.a. Most of these materials are for their own folding carton production. Typical packagings CLIMAX is know for are gift cartons, bakery cartons and food packaging.

CLIMAX already does have an In-Line Flexo Printing Line with integrated flat bed die cutter. The basic aim, when buying a new real High-Tech-Line was to venture into a higher market segment and to be superior to their competitors in print quality and delivery times. BHS won this competition, despite tough competitors, mainly from Germany.

BHS Druck-Und VEREDELINGSTECHNIK already has delivered more then ten Wide Web Flexo Presses for carton printing. All lines operate from reel to reel or from reel to cut blank, some using solvent inks and some water-based inks or UV-inks.

Successful printing trials

Constant and high register accuracy and good ink coverage were important criteria during the printing trials. Both BHS could prove – which then was the base for further negotiations.

“Unfortunately we cannot go for the maximum speed with the FLEXLINE COMPACT”, the BHS supervisor said as the speed limiting factor of an In’Line-Press is the die cutter respectively the delivery end of the cut blanks.

Besides this perfect machine demonstration BHS can report on another success during this time. Messrs. LOS ANGELES PAPER BOX & BOARD as well ordered another large press for Folding Carton production with integrated flat bed cutter. This line will be delivered by the middle of this year. In the USA, BHS now can offer Folding Carton Lines for demonstration at the West as well as East Coast.

Both successes confirm the strategic orientation of BHS in Flexo Printing. At BHS one is convinced that this may influence also the European market of folding carton flexo printing.
